IMMERSE KL x CelcomDigi 2025, the flagship immersive technology programme organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), has achieved a major milestone by generating over RM1 million in immersive technology business opportunities for participating companies. Held over two days in collaboration with CelcomDigi, the event drew 555 participants from Malaysia and overseas, reinforcing the country’s position as an emerging regional powerhouse for immersive innovation. Bringing together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, creators, students, and policymakers, the programme showcased Malaysia’s growing capabilities in extended reality (XR), virtual production, immersive storytelling, and creative content.
A total of 32 exhibitors and 25 speakers participated, with leading names such as CelcomDigi, FreeDome, Experiential Design Team (EDT), Revenant Reverie, and FaBu Designs offering hands-on demonstrations of cutting-edge immersive technologies. Students and independent creators also contributed fresh perspectives, adding to the diversity and creativity of the showcase. Among the most significant achievements was the launch of the International Interactive & Immersive Society (i3S) – Malaysia’s first dedicated immersive technology association. The i3S is set to play a central role in advancing the country’s immersive technology ecosystem by driving collaboration between industry players, nurturing skilled talent, enabling commercialisation, and supporting policy development. Its focus spans augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), XR, virtual production, simulators, and AV hardware, ensuring Malaysia is well-positioned to compete in the global immersive economy.

The event also marked an important industry milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Monolith Technologies and Virtualtech Frontier (VTF). This strategic partnership aims to develop next-generation XR experiences aligned with Malaysia’s broader digital economy ambitions. In addition, a Strategic Roundtable session hosted with Meta Reality Labs brought together government agencies, academia, and industry leaders, including representatives from MTVET, TalentCorp, and various local universities. The roundtable focused on exploring how immersive technology can support national priorities in education, skills development, and workforce readiness – ensuring the country’s talent is future-ready in an increasingly tech-driven economy.
Another highlight was the Matchworks Business Matching Programme, which facilitated direct engagement between 17 Malaysian solution providers and 43 SMEs and corporates. These sessions explored potential collaborations in areas such as marketing, operations, and customer experience, demonstrating the tangible commercial opportunities that immersive technologies can unlock.
Speaking at the event, MDEC Chief Executive Officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil highlighted the significance of IMMERSE KL x CelcomDigi 2025 in accelerating Malaysia’s digital economy. “By launching the nation’s first immersive technology association and cultivating strategic partnerships, we are demonstrating how innovation, talent development, and global collaboration can further move the digital economy forward. MDEC remains fully committed to supporting platforms that advance technological breakthroughs, develop skilled talent, and strengthen industry collaboration, ensuring our creative tech sector continues to lead in XR, AR, VR, and beyond,” he said.

The event received strong industry support, with CelcomDigi serving as the official partner. Sponsors included Diamond Sponsors such as Freedome by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM), Revenant Reverie, Warnakala Studios, and XR Associates; Gold Sponsors including UnBound Malaysia, CCACC (CloudTech Group), FaBu Design, and Experiential Design Team; Silver Sponsors Virtual X and Pixljaya Digital Media & Entertainment; and Bronze Sponsors Monolith Technologies, Victory Forest Commercial, and SME Corp, which also hosted the Matchworks Programme.
Looking ahead, IMMERSE KL is set to expand its reach by bringing immersive technology innovation to Penang in 2026 before returning to Kuala Lumpur that same year. This strategic expansion will ensure that Malaysia’s immersive technology ecosystem continues to grow across regions, fostering innovation, encouraging collaboration, and cementing the nation’s position as a leader in immersive solutions in Southeast Asia.
