In celebration of Merdeka month, the world’s most-played mobile MOBA, Honor of Kings (HOK), has joined forces with Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia to pay tribute to the nation’s cultural roots through music, storytelling, and gaming. At the heart of this collaboration is Malaysian singer, songwriter, and producer Mimifly, who returns with her powerful new single, “Nara.”
Blending the rhythm of gamelan, the beauty of pantun, and the richness of folklore, the collaboration represents a meeting point between tradition and innovation. It reflects HOK’s wider commitment to celebrating Southeast Asian creativity and heritage, while amplifying Malaysia’s voice on the global stage.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Adam Adli, described the partnership as a shining example of culture thriving in new spaces. “Games have become one of the most dynamic spaces for culture and creativity to thrive. As our young people explore new ways to tell stories and express themselves, this collaboration between Honor of Kings and Mimifly proves that games can carry the heartbeat of national pride, heritage, and imagination. It is a shining example of Malaysia’s creative energy, from music to mythology, standing tall in the modern world.”
At the centre of this celebration is Mimifly’s latest single, “Nara,” released under Sony Music Entertainment. Inspired by the legendary Puteri Gunung Ledang, the track pays homage to her wisdom, courage, and strategic brilliance. Echoing the spirit of a “srikandi” or female warrior, the song mirrors HOK’s narrative of legendary heroes battling in epic arenas. Available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music, “Nara” combines pop and hip-hop with Mimifly’s signature Nusantara influences, resulting in a sound that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in tradition.
“It’s been an honour for me to compose ‘Nara.’ Through this song, I wanted to capture the spirit of Puteri Gunung Ledang wisdom, courage, and grace and translate that energy into music that awakens the warrior within us,” said Mimifly. “I also included my signature sign language in the video as a symbol of unity and inclusion. To me, strength is not just about power, but also the heart and the mind. I hope this song inspires everyone, gamer or not, to rise and be the best version of themselves.”

Sony Music Malaysia highlighted the significance of the collaboration. “At Sony Music Entertainment, we’ve always believed in the power of music to tell stories and connect cultures,” said Ally Siw, Senior Director of Domestic, Marketing & Partnerships. “Working with Mimifly and Honor of Kings on ‘Nara’ allows us to celebrate Malaysia’s rich heritage in a way that feels authentic and modern. When music, culture, and gaming come together, the impact goes far beyond entertainment. It becomes a shared moment of pride and identity.”
The celebration extends into the gaming universe as HOK introduces a brand-new in-game skin, Puteri Gunung Ledang, on 28 August. The design draws deeply from Malaysian heritage, with intricate 3D-rendered songket fabrics and motifs inspired by local mythology. Players can claim the skin for free until 9 September, allowing millions worldwide to experience Malaysia’s stories in a modern, interactive form.
Eugene Chin, Country Manager of Level Infinite Malaysia, emphasised the importance of this milestone. “This Merdeka update is more than just a visual refresh it’s a heartfelt celebration of culture, identity, and creative expression. We believe Malaysia’s rich heritage has a powerful story to tell, and we’re proud to help share it with the world through Honor of Kings.”
The celebration continues across social media with the launch of the #NARAofHOK dance challenge, where fans are invited to recreate Mimifly’s choreography from the music video, including her unique use of sign language. Additional Malaysian-inspired updates in the game include localised voiceovers, limited-time titles, and exclusive digital stickers, all designed to immerse players in the nation’s culture.
Far beyond music and skins, this campaign is positioned as a cultural movement a way to celebrate Malaysia’s identity and creativity in the digital spaces where young people gather and express themselves. With millions of active players across the globe, “Nara” and the Merdeka tribute stand as a powerful reminder that Malaysia’s stories, music, and mythology can inspire not only a nation, but the world.
