Amelia Roziman Makes History as First Asian Recipient of The Iceberg Excellence Award. Amelia Roziman, Chief Executive Officer of Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), has etched her name in history as the first Asian and only the fifth individual to receive The Iceberg Excellence Award in the accolade’s decade-long history. The prestigious recognition was presented during the inaugural LEGACY360 Education in Kuching, honouring Amelia’s visionary leadership, commitment to legacy-driven event strategies, and groundbreaking contributions to sustainable business events.

The Iceberg Excellence Award is reserved for global trailblazers who redefine the conventions of event planning by creating lasting social, environmental, and economic legacies. Amelia’s recognition by The Iceberg underscores her outstanding achievements in championing sustainability, purpose, and legacy as the foundation of business events. “As the first person from Asia to receive this honour, Amelia is not only a source of pride for Malaysia and Borneo, but she sets a powerful benchmark for the industry globally,” said James Latham, Founder and Producer of The Iceberg. “She is a deserving recipient, and we hope that the strength of her advocacy inspires more.”

Under Amelia’s forward-thinking leadership, Sarawak has experienced a transformative shift — evolving from viewing events as mere gatherings to recognising them as powerful, legacy-driven platforms that deliver meaningful impact. Her strategic advocacy framework, Sarawak 2030, positioned business events as a priority economic sector under the Sarawak government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030. This initiative also garnered international recognition, earning the ICCA Best Marketing Award for its innovation and vision.

Throughout her distinguished career, Amelia has led Sarawak to win 29 destination marketing awards and secured 10 personal honours, including her induction into the Events Industry Council (EIC) Hall of Leaders in 2023 — another milestone where she became the first Asian woman to receive this recognition. A proud Bidayuh, one of Borneo’s indigenous tribes, Amelia has been a key figure in shaping Malaysia’s business events landscape since 2006, empowering new generations of leaders in the sector.

“I am deeply humbled and honoured to receive The Iceberg Excellence Award,” said Amelia. “This recognition also belongs to the BESarawak team, whose collective passion reflects our shared belief that events should be a force for positive change. It also stands as a testament to Sarawak’s ambition to lead the way in sustainable, legacy-centric business events by 2030.”

Amelia further expressed her hope that this achievement would inspire more destinations and organisations to adopt legacy-focused thinking and integrate sustainability into every event. “Success in business events should not be measured only by attendance or revenue, but by the long-term positive impact it creates,” she added.

Presented by the Joint Meetings Industry Council, The Iceberg is a global platform dedicated to exploring, documenting, and promoting the enduring legacies of business events. With this recognition, Amelia Roziman joins an elite group of ambassadors whose influence continues to shape the industry’s global movement toward more purposeful, sustainable, and impactful event practices.
