Brewspark Transforms Team Building into a National Movement for Environmental Change. Across industries and communities, the most powerful agents of change are often the ones working quietly behind the scenes. These grassroots leaders build trust, inspire collaboration, and shape impact — yet their efforts rarely gain the recognition they deserve. It was this very gap that the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards (BILA) sought to bridge when it debuted in Kuching on 3 October 2025, honouring individuals and organisations making real differences in their communities.
Among the standout honourees was Brewspark Technologies Group, recipient of the Corporate Meetings and Corporate Incentives (CSR) Champion Award. The Malaysian tech company, led by Lord Dr. Kazuki Foo Ming Wei, is redefining what corporate responsibility means through its innovative environmental initiative, Spogomi Malaysia.

“True change happens when organisations get involved, not just donate,” said Foo. “Spogomi proves that protecting the planet can be fun, active, and something the next generation can be proud of.”
Spogomi Malaysia is a sustainability movement that turns litter collection into a team-based competition — merging environmental responsibility with teamwork, fitness, and community spirit. Originating from Japan in 2008, the word “Spogomi” combines sport and gomi, the Japanese term for trash. Participants compete to collect and properly sort waste within a time limit, earning points for the quantity and types of trash gathered.
When Brewspark introduced Spogomi to Malaysia in 2023, the response exceeded expectations. What began as a small pilot in one city quickly evolved into a nationwide movement, growing to eight regional events by 2025 and attracting 135 teams from across the country. Collectively, participants collected and sorted over 1,027 kilograms of waste, with the national finals alone achieving 540 kilograms of sorted waste in just one hour.

Beyond the impressive numbers, Spogomi Malaysia represents a deeper shift — from corporate charity to strategic sustainability. Brewspark collaborated with local councils to create waste segregation heatmaps, mapping waste patterns across cities to help authorities improve their recycling and waste management systems. The company also partnered with the Centre for Marine Research Studies, turning community clean-ups into data-driven environmental research with measurable outcomes.
Foo acknowledges that scaling Spogomi Malaysia across multiple cities required immense coordination. “Each city had its own systems and priorities. Getting everyone aligned to a single sustainability vision took patience, flexibility, and communication,” he shared. Despite the challenges, the movement succeeded — proving how collective purpose can drive national impact.
Today, Spogomi Malaysia has become more than just a clean-up initiative; it’s a cultural movement. Schools are integrating Spogomi principles into educational programs, and local governments are exploring similar models for ongoing environmental engagement. Brewspark’s initiative has inspired a sense of pride in sustainability, shifting the narrative from obligation to celebration.

Through efforts like these, Brewspark Technologies Group demonstrates that corporate social responsibility can be a living legacy — one that empowers communities, builds partnerships, and advances Malaysia’s sustainability goals. Their recognition at BILA 2025 highlights that the most meaningful change begins when businesses take action rooted in purpose.
“Change begins the moment you choose to act,” Foo concluded. “No effort is ever too small when it’s driven by purpose and heart.”
