The 62nd Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF), which will take place from 29 November to 6 December 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is set to honour one of Hong Kong’s most respected and enduring film icons, Simon Yam, with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Recognised for his remarkable versatility and commanding screen presence, Yam has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning more than four decades, with over 200 film credits to his name. His body of work ranges from intense crime thrillers and dynamic action blockbusters to nuanced arthouse dramas, including acclaimed titles such as Election, PTU, Kill Zone – S.P.L., Exiled, and Eye in the Sky. He has also achieved international recognition through Hollywood projects like Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
Beyond his acting achievements, Simon Yam has played a pivotal role in championing Hong Kong cinema on the global stage, inspiring countless actors and filmmakers across Asia with his dedication and artistry. Reflecting on the recognition, Yam expressed his heartfelt gratitude, stating that receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from APFF was both an honour and a motivation to continue pursuing his passion. “For me, the Lifetime Achievement Award is not an ending, but a new beginning,” he shared, expressing his eagerness to take on new challenges and continue contributing to the industry he loves.
Aron Koh, Organising Chairman of the 62nd APFF, highlighted that the Lifetime Achievement Award represents one of the festival’s highest honours, reserved for individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the cinematic arts throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Organised by Lomo Pictures Sdn. Bhd. and endorsed by the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA), with support from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), the 62nd APFF promises to be a grand celebration of cinematic excellence.
