In order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and to highlight Hong Kong’s most recent advancements in fields such as the arts, culture, and tourism, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Jakarta (HKETO Jakarta) today (August 24) launched Marvels in Hong Kong, a dedicated event series. A media launch event was organised today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by HKETO Jakarta and the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) to commemorate the event series’ formal premiere.
The Director-General of HKETO Jakarta, Mr. Law Kin-wai, noted in his remarks at the media launch ceremony that Hong Kong is a highly international city with enormous appeal in addition to its well-known advantages in business and trade. As an illustration, he used the historic construction of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), a developing international centre for the arts and culture that is home to world-class attractions including the Xiqu Centre, the M+ museum, and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
14th Five-Year Plan of the country, Hong Kong is clearly positioned as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural and arts exchange. The city will further consolidate its relevant edge with the completion of the East Kowloon Cultural Centre, the Lyric Theatre Complex in the WKCD, and the Kai Tak Sports Park as a mega performance venue.
Also speaking at the event, the Regional Director of the Southest Asia of the HKTB, Mr Raymond Chan, said that Hong Kong has always been close to the hearts of Malaysian travellers, and Malaysia is an important key source market for Hong Kong. With the new infrastructure development and experiences in Hong Kong, the city cannot wait to welcome Malaysian travellers back to Hong Kong to experience the new tourism offerings.
HKETO Jakarta presented at the event the theme song of the 25th anniversary of the establishement of the HKSAR, “Heading Forward”, to share the joy and excitement of this important milestone. The HKTB also invited local celebrities and artists in Malaysia to highlight the latest information and must-go spots for tourists visiting Hong Kong through interactive activities and artwork, showcasing the city’s unique character with its iconic East-meets-West culture and a dynamic mix od the old and the new.
A variety of events, including roaming exhibitions, cultural performances, and media meetings, are included in the Marvels in Hong Kong series to highlight the HKSAR’s outstanding accomplishments during the previous 25 years. This weekend in Kuala Lumpur, the HKETO Jakarta organisation will organise an exhibition titled “Marvels in Hong Kong: 25 Years and Beyond” as the latest in the series of events.
