In conjunction with Merdeka and Malaysia Day, PropertyGuru Malaysia has officially introduced the “Everyone Welcome” tag, a new search feature designed to foster inclusivity in the rental market. This voluntary initiative gives property agents and landlords the option to mark their listings as non-discriminatory, ensuring that all potential tenants regardless of race, religion, gender, or background can feel confident and welcomed when searching for a home.

The new filter enables renters to easily identify inclusive listings, providing a meaningful step toward fairer and more transparent housing opportunities in Malaysia. It complements the platform’s existing safeguards such as listing guidelines and reporting mechanisms for discriminatory, duplicate, or fake properties. “Finding a home should always feel safe, fair, and transparent for everyone,” said Kenneth Soh, Country Manager for PropertyGuru and iProperty in Malaysia. “The Everyone Welcome tag reflects our belief that inclusivity is essential. As Malaysia’s leading property marketplace, we have a responsibility to build trust, lead by example, and empower more people to find homes where they feel truly welcome.”

Recent findings by Architects of Diversity Malaysia (AOD) and Swayable underline the importance of this move, as 60 percent of tenants reported experiencing racial discrimination in the rental process. While nearly half of Malaysians still believe landlords should be allowed to screen tenants based on race, a growing number now advocate for fairer and more inclusive practices, highlighting a shift toward progressive change in the housing sector.

Since its soft launch in April 2025, the Everyone Welcome tag has received encouraging adoption, with 10 percent of active rental listings now carrying the tag and renters beginning to embrace the filter in their property searches. To further bring this spirit of inclusivity to life, PropertyGuru is also set to premiere a brand film titled Jauh Galaksi, Dekat Di Hati on 15 August 2025. The lighthearted short, set in outer space, follows a group of Malaysians and a curious alien as they reflect on what makes a place feel like home. From the familiar scent of nasi lemak to the everyday sounds of Manglish, the film captures the essence of Malaysian life even 680 light years away. When the alien asks, “Even me?” one of the characters responds with a smile, showing how inclusive homes can be found on PropertyGuru through the Everyone Welcome filter.

Commenting on the film, Kar Wai Low, Country Marketing Director for PropertyGuru and iProperty in Malaysia and Thailand, explained, “With Jauh Galaksi, Dekat Di Hati, we wanted to reimagine the idea of home in a way that feels uniquely Malaysian, full of warmth, humour, and heart. Whether you are far away or simply searching for a place to call your own, the film reminds us that home is where you are accepted. That is the same spirit behind the Everyone Welcome tag: to ensure that every Malaysian feels seen, valued, and included when they search for a home.”

As Malaysia commemorates its independence and unity, PropertyGuru’s latest initiative reflects a broader vision of belonging and inclusivity. By introducing features that promote fairness and sharing stories that celebrate shared identity, the company reaffirms its commitment to making the search for a home more open, thoughtful, and truly Malaysian.
