BYD Malaysia, together with its official distributor Sime Motors, has marked a major milestone in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) industry with the arrival of the BYD Zhengzhou, a dedicated roll-on/roll-off (RORO) carrier vessel with a capacity of 7,000 units. This marks the vessel’s maiden voyage to Southeast Asia, delivering fully built BYD vehicles to Malaysian customers.
The BYD Zhengzhou made its first stop at North Port, Port Klang, before continuing its journey to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. It will then make a final stop in Thailand before returning to China. This arrival is part of BYD’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its global supply chain and ensure faster, more reliable delivery to key markets.
As the seventh vessel in BYD’s growing fleet of purpose-built carriers, the BYD Zhengzhou demonstrates the company’s logistics readiness and commitment to meeting the rising demand for EVs in Malaysia and the region. The vessel’s RORO system allows vehicles to be driven on and off the ship directly, reducing handling time and costs compared to traditional container shipping.

Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors, Southeast Asia, described the event as “a significant milestone in our partnership with BYD, symbolising the growing potential of Malaysia as a vital EV hub in the region.” He added that this enhanced logistics capability ensures shorter delivery times, better customer satisfaction, and the capacity to handle greater volumes in the future as EV adoption accelerates.
Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd, emphasised the importance of owning a dedicated shipping fleet in securing global transport resources. “The BYD Zhengzhou is built to enhance delivery capabilities, ensuring faster and more reliable shipments directly to customers in Malaysia. This is a key step in strengthening our role in the Asia Pacific market and supporting the rapid growth of EV adoption,” he said.
With over 35 BYD outlets already operating nationwide and a target of reaching 60 by the end of 2026, BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors are confident that this new logistics capability will accelerate their shared mission of delivering cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions to Malaysian drivers.
