Jazzy Pictures, Oh’ Yes Co., Ltd, and Timeless Productions Unveil Bluefish 청어: A Gritty Tale of Redemption and Human Resilience. In an exciting new pan-Asian collaboration, Jazzy Pictures, in partnership with Oh’ Yes Co., Ltd and co-produced by Timeless Productions, has announced its latest film project, Bluefish 청어—a gripping, emotionally rich action drama set against the backdrop of South Korea’s coastal towns. Directed by acclaimed Korean filmmaker Lee Sang-hoon and produced by Jazzy Pictures’ Joanne Goh, the film delves into themes of redemption, human connection, and the quiet strength of compassion. Currently in pre-production, Bluefish 청어 is scheduled to begin filming in October 2025 in Busan and Yeongdeok, with an international release slated for early 2026.

Leading the cast are Ji Seung-Hyun and Hong Kong actress Cecilia Choi, whose past performances have been lauded for their emotional nuance. Choi’s breakout role in Beyond the Dream earned her the Best Actress award at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards in 2020, and her casting as Yeon-jeon—a mute milk delivery girl—marks a poignant addition to her repertoire. According to producer Joanne Goh, the role of Yeon-jeon required a performer capable of conveying immense depth without dialogue. “It’s not an easy role,” Goh explained at a recent press conference, “but Cecilia brings an authenticity and quiet resilience that the character needed.”

At the heart of Bluefish 청어 lies the story of Gwang-su, a drifter haunted by a violent past. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Yeon-jeon, whose silent compassion disrupts his destructive cycle. When a misunderstanding forces them apart, Gwang-su must decide whether to return to the shadows or stand up for something real. What follows is a visceral journey of sacrifice, emotional reckoning, and the healing power of empathy in the face of brutality.

For Jazzy Pictures, Bluefish 청어 represents more than just a film—it is their first co-production with a South Korean production team and a long-envisioned step toward deeper regional storytelling. The film underscores the growing importance of cross-border collaboration in Asia’s creative industries and exemplifies a shared commitment to bold, emotionally resonant narratives.

Director Lee Sang-hoon’s vision for the film is deeply rooted in his personal interest in how society engages with people with disabilities. “Often, we approach people with disabilities with pity or discomfort,” Lee noted. “With Bluefish, I want to break that barrier—not by portraying disability as something tragic, but as an everyday reality, full of rich, complex, and deeply human experiences.” The story is ultimately about two individuals from different worlds whose unlikely bond offers a glimpse of healing, acceptance, and inner transformation.

Lead actor Ji Seung-Hyun expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I’m truly happy to take on this role, and I’m very much looking forward to the filming process and working together with Cecilia Choi.” Producer Joanne Goh added, “We hope this film gives hope, light, and courage to people with disabilities—to show that they, too, can live independently and meaningfully, just like anyone else.”

With its powerful blend of action, emotional storytelling, and social relevance, Bluefish 청어 is poised to offer a fresh and compelling cinematic voice—one that dares to explore the transformative strength of compassion in a fractured world.
