The spotlight is set to shine on Malaysia once again as the 62nd Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF) makes its highly anticipated return from 29 November to 6 December 2025. The announcement was made today at a vibrant press conference held at GSC Mid Valley Megamall, signalling the revival of one of the region’s most celebrated cinematic events.

First established in 1954 by the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA), the APFF has spent more than six decades travelling across member nations, championing the artistry of filmmaking and strengthening cultural exchange. This year, Kuala Lumpur will play host to the entire week-long festival, with all screenings taking place at GSC Cinemas, the festival’s Official Cinema Partner. The 2025 edition is organised by Malaysia’s own Lomo Pictures Sdn. Bhd., a company dedicated to promoting creative authenticity and regional storytelling.

Speaking at the launch, Organising Chairman Aron Koh expressed pride at Malaysia’s role as host. “The return of APFF to our shores is more than just a celebration of cinema. It’s a testament to the strength and resilience of our creative industries, and a reminder that great stories can bridge borders,” he said.

Echoing his sentiment, FPA Secretary General Pansha shared, “It feels like coming home. APFF has always stood for community and opportunity, and cinema remains one of the most powerful ways to connect cultures. This festival continues to open doors for emerging storytellers while celebrating established voices.”

One of the day’s biggest announcements was the appointment of legendary Hong Kong–born cinematographer Peter Pau as Jury President for the Asia-Pacific Competition. Pau, whose career spans over 40 years, is revered worldwide for his breathtaking visuals, notably in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which earned him the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. His distinguished portfolio also includes The Bride with White Hair, Perhaps Love, and Sword Master.

Adding to the excitement, Malaysian leading man Syafiq Kyle was named the recipient of the FPA Asia-Pacific Rising Icon Award. From his early days as a Hero Remaja finalist to acclaimed performances in Sheriff: Narko Integriti, The Experts, and Blood Brothers: Bara Naga, Syafiq has solidified his reputation as one of the country’s most versatile and magnetic actors.

The press conference also unveiled the official festival key visual, designed by Malaysian independent artist Iqbal Hakim Boo. The artwork reflects APFF’s dedication to showcasing regional artistry while embracing bold creative voices.

This year’s APFF is supported by an extensive network of partners: the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (Endorsing Partner), Lomo Pictures Sdn. Bhd. (Organiser), and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) as Supporting Partner. GSC International Screens returns as Official Cinema Partner. Sponsors include KK Mart, HotChain Media, and Nuvo Clinic, with Fortune Media as Strategic Partner and MARQI as Digital Technology Partner.

With a stellar jury, a roster of outstanding talent, and a celebration of cinematic artistry that transcends borders, the 62nd Asia-Pacific Film Festival promises to be one of the year’s most unmissable events.
