Sunway Medical Centre Champions Preventive Health with Inaugural Life Moves Festival 2025. Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) marked a significant milestone in its ongoing public health efforts by hosting the inaugural Life Moves Festival 2025, which drew participation from over 2,000 individuals from various backgrounds. The festival was a vibrant call to action, urging the public to take charge of their health and embrace preventive care as a foundation for long-term well-being.

Set against the backdrop of alarming national health statistics from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023—which reported that 15.6% of Malaysian adults live with diabetes and over half are overweight or obese—the festival directly addressed the country’s growing non-communicable disease (NCD) burden. With cardiovascular disease and cancer remaining leading causes of premature death, and many cases detected only at later stages, the event underscored the urgent need for early intervention and public awareness.

The overwhelming attendance at Life Moves Festival 2025 reflects a growing movement of Malaysians taking ownership of their health.

Held at the main lobby of Tower C & D in SMC, the Life Moves Festival 2025 transformed the hospital space into an open, inclusive community hub. Attendees were offered free health screenings including blood glucose and cholesterol checks, body composition analysis, and urine screenings. Medical professionals from SMC were present to provide on-the-spot consultation and wellness guidance, helping many participants gain a clearer understanding of their health status.

Dr Seow Vei Ken, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Medical Centre, highlighted the significance of early detection in managing chronic diseases. “In many cases, early detection and effective management can improve patients’ outcomes and control the progression of NCDs. Through this event, we encourage the community to take their health seriously, without fear or judgment,” he said. “Sometimes, the first step is simply knowing where you stand.”

A key highlight of the festival was the “Jantungku” Walkthrough Exhibit, a multi-sensory, immersive journey through the human cardiovascular system. The exhibit captivated both children and adults alike, serving as a visual and interactive reminder of how lifestyle choices influence long-term heart health. Alongside this, children and families engaged in educational games and hands-on health-themed activities, while shoppers explored the Vibrant Health Marketplace, a showcase of wellness products and services.

More than just a health event, the Life Moves Festival 2025 reflected SMC’s broader mission to make preventive healthcare accessible and engaging. Its success was made possible by the combined efforts of the hospital’s healthcare professionals and dedicated partners, all working together to amplify health literacy in the community.

As Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital, Sunway Medical Centre continues to lead the way in delivering advanced, patient-centric care. The hospital is uniquely distinguished as the first in the country to hold three major hospital-wide accreditations: Joint Commission International (JCI) from the United States, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).

The institution also clinched its fourth consecutive Hospital of the Year (Malaysia) award at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2025, reinforcing its national and international standing.

Currently offering over 60 medical specialities across 28 Centres of Excellence and housing 810 licensed beds, SMC is set to expand further with the completion of its upcoming Tower F (Children’s Pavilion), which will increase capacity to over 1,100 beds.

Through initiatives like the Life Moves Festival, Sunway Medical Centre continues to redefine healthcare by empowering communities, advancing prevention, and transforming lives.
