Redefining Regional Industrial Automation in Southeast Asia

SUBANG JAYA — Epson has officially expanded its footprint in the regional technology sector with the Southeast Asian launch of the AX6 Collaborative Robot (Cobot), setting a new benchmark for flexible and safe automation in specialized environments. Unveiled against the backdrop of a rapidly expanding regional industrial automation market projected to reach US$17.54 billion by 2033 the AX6 is specifically engineered to meet the stringent demands of cleanrooms, pharmaceutical laboratories, electronics manufacturing, and logistics. By bridging the gap between advanced robotic capability and user-friendly operation, Epson aims to help industries overcome acute labor shortages and complex space constraints without requiring massive overhauls of existing infrastructure.

Lightweight Engineering and Programming Versatility of the Epson AX6

Weighing a mere 17 kilograms, the AX6 is the lightest collaborative robot in its class, featuring a compact carbon-body arm manipulator that seamlessly integrates into confined spaces. Its versatility is further amplified by support for both AC and DC power supplies, as well as full compatibility with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and automated guided vehicles (AGVs). To ease the steep learning curves traditionally associated with industrial robotics, Epson equipped the AX6 with intuitive hand-guided teaching functions and user-friendly block programming. While entry-level operators can easily configure workflows, advanced users benefit from full compatibility with Python and the Robot Operating System (ROS), ensuring high adaptability across diverse technical skillsets.

Stringent Cleanroom Hygiene and Advanced Operator Safeguards

Safety and hygiene remain paramount, particularly in life sciences and cleanroom settings where contamination control is critical. The AX6 comes standard with an ISO Class 5 cleanroom classification, IP54 dust and splash protection, and an easy-to-clean screwless exterior with internal wiring. Furthermore, its advanced collaborative safety functions including Power and Force Limiting (PFL), Safe Operating Stop (SOS), Safe Limited Speed (SLS), and Safe Limited Position (SLP) ensure secure, side-by-side cooperation with human operators. Seiichi Ito, Regional Director of Robots for Epson Southeast Asia, emphasized that the AX6 focuses heavily on real-world usability and ease of adoption. Now available for purchase in Malaysia, the AX6 empowers organizations to automate repetitive tasks efficiently, freeing human personnel to concentrate on high-value research, analysis, and specialized clinical work.
